HTC Butterfly S Review

After the quintessential Galaxy S4, HTC's new Butterfly S has fluttered into the limelight. The announcement of the latter must have been the proudest moment the company has experienced so far. Cutting-edge technology and top-notch features of Butterfly S have snatched the title of the most distinguished smartphones away from HTC One, iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Butterfly S possesses the same marvelous display as its ancestor, HTC butterfly. A 5.0 inches screen along with a jaw dropping 441 PPI of pixel density continue to tempt potential buyers. Plus, LCD3 capacitive touchscreen technology has also been inherited by HTC’s marvelous product from its predecessor. There has been an improvement in the glass protection by upgrading from Corning Gorilla Glass 2 to version 3. The screen size and 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution are the same as the old HTC Butterfly and Galaxy S4.

With a thickness of 10.66 mm, Butterfly S is not the sleekest phone manufactured by the company. Its immediate ancestor and the HTC One are 1.56 mm and 1.36 mm thinner, respectively. However, this new handset is still something to gawk at due to its impressive length. You can have the phone in black, white, grey or red colors.

The super fast 1.9 GHz processor along with Snapdragon 600 chipset make Butterfly S beat SGS4’s 1.6 GHz processor. On the other hand, both the phones face neck-to-neck competition with one another owing to Android’s Jelly Bean 4.2.2 version. Butterfly S also uses the latest version of HTC Sense user interface. This is version 5 which was introduced in HTC One for the first time. Therefore, the company’s new Butterfly is faster, more user-friendly and interactive for all users.

One more feature which HTC’s latest stunner has in common with the phenomenal HTC One is an UltraPixel camera. At first, you might doubt the camera’s quality by discovering its 4 MP resolution. However, UltraPixel means you do not have to worry about megapixels anymore. This sensational technology brings a new level of quality to your pictures by focusing more on the amount of light captured by the camera instead of the number of its megapixels. This is accomplished through a more advanced optical lens system, ISP and an enhanced CMOS sensor. Therefore, your pictures will be brighter and full of life even in dim environments. Despite having a resolution of merely 4MP, the UltraPixel camera performs way better than the 13MP camera of SGS4 and 8 MP cameras of several other top-notch smartphones.

The phone is also equipped with a 2.1 MP secondary camera. Moreover, you also have the option of HD video recording. You can also take still images simultaneously while recording a video. Therefore, you wouldn’t miss a single memorable moment. You will be able to view your gorgeous photos and memorable videos on the wider screen of TV as there has been added a TV-out port for this purpose.

Another great quality of Butterfly S is its extremely powerful battery. This 3200 mAh powerhouse will definitely last much longer than SGS4’s 2600 mAh. HTC’s Butterfly S has the same battery which made its immediate predecessor more powerful than HTC One housing a 2300 mAh battery.

More improvements for the new phone include the addition of a memory card slot. This has been quite a serious deficiency in its predecessor as well as the classic HTC One. However, after dealing with a fair share of criticism for this omission, the manufacturers have finally added the feature to this new gadget. Therefore, along with an appreciable 16 GB internal storage and 2 GB RAM, you can add even more memory space through this memory card slot, i.e. up to 32 GB.

However, one area where Butterfly S offers no competition against HTC One or Galaxy S4 is 4G connectivity. The former offers no fast speeds of the LTE network. This is the only feature the latest Android prodigy fails to bring to the top.

On the bright side, focus on the additional perks you are going to get with the device. For instance, you can enjoy free 25 GB of Dropbox storage. This handy software lets you share different files across various devices. Just put a file in your phone’s Dropbox folder to share it with a friend who has been given the permission to access it. Dropbox is also a convenient way of transferring files to your own devices remotely. Therefore, you will be able to share and transfer your photos, videos, music files or documents instantly anywhere across the globe.

Other apps include what generally all other smartphones have, such as social network integration, Google apps, YouTube and Document viewer, etc.

The huge price of the phone does not come as a surprise after analyzing its amazing features. Before the announcement of this wonder, phones like SGS4, HTC One and Sony Xperia had been the standards against which critics used to measure the quality of other smartphones. However, now the extraordinary HTC Butterfly S has set new standards. It is going to be at the top, of course, a more advanced phone brings more exciting features to the smartphone world.

There are still a few deficiencies which prevent this new phone from stealing the popularity of Samsung Galaxy S4. As already mentioned, 4G connectivity is missing. Secondly, even though Butterfly S possesses superior hardware, it cannot beat SGS4 in the software area. Apps like S-health and S-translator continue to maintain the status of Galaxy S4 as a phenomenal gadget. HTC failed to bring such exciting apps for its new smartphone.

However, other than that, Butterfly S is, indeed, a remarkable creation by HTC. Users are waiting for its release in order to actually experience the supreme features as claimed by the manufacturers.
